This week we hear of two examples of dishonesty, one about some businessmen who not only cheat their customers but are also hypocrites about it: They impatiently but piously wait for after the “new moon,” when commerce was prohibited, so they can get back to shafting people with their crooked scales.

When I’m pope, Catechetical Sunday will be elevated to a high holy day. The color of today’s vestments will be red, because religion teachers are the unsung martyrs of the church.

Some seminarians were sitting around in the recreation room. Their casual conversation soon turned to kidding one another, as young men do. Each one got ragged over some minor matter: one was a champion at procrastination, another getting caught up in fantasy football, and so on.

Brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
