The Easter Season begins, a time to continue the celebration of new life and possibility in our world. We observe Divine Mercy Sunday (7), followed immediately by the relocated Solemnity of the Annunciation (8, shifted due to Holy Week). Good Shepherd Sunday (21) also shares the observance of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations.

Today's readings outline the ways to know and love God and become witnesses of the Lord's saving truth.

Last week in John’s gospel Thomas took the rap for demanding tangible signs of the Resurrection of Jesus. This week in Luke’s account Jesus spontaneously offers concrete evidence of his presence to quell his disciples’ unuttered questions.

George was an avowed atheist and loved challenging believers. 

When my kids were little, if they fell down and hurt themselves, they would usually run to my wife or me to show us their “boo-boo.” And we would swoop them up in hugs and kisses and tend to their bruised egos as well as their skinned knees.

My brothers and sisters, to prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries, let us call to mind our sins.

I wish not merely to be called Christian, but also to be Christian.
