The celebration of Easter lasts all month, accompanied by stories of the early church in Acts, apocalyptic messages from Revelation, and John's mystical gospel.

When have you been faced with the choice between obeying God and following human rules and laws? What did you do? How did you decide?

Some things are clearly once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. You see the lovely stranger who plays your heartstrings like a harp, but he or she is walking away. Speak now or forever hold your peace!

Among the many harbingers of spring, I remember fondly as a child the smelt run along the shores of Lake Michigan in April. Smelt are small, silvery fish of 4 to 6 inches.

What is more astonishing: that the disciples of Jesus should have returned to their former lives so soon after Jesus’ Crucifixion and Resurrection? That they should have gotten a net-breaking load of fish at the direction of some backseat angler yelling instructions from shore?

God forgives our sins. In a spirit of repentance we turn to God’s mercy.

I go fishing not to find myself but to lose myself.
