Jesus is our high priest. How do you share in Christ’s priesthood? How were you called? What do you offer? How do you share in the life and struggles of your people?

After a month of listening to stories about the folks around Jesus getting it terribly wrong, isn’t it a relief to contemplate the story of one who got it right?

When Jesus asks blind Bartimaeus, “What do you want me to do for you?” we might be thinking, “Duh! What do you think?” Yet in an interview, Ray Charles insisted that if God offered him his sight back, he wouldn’t take it.

The great journalist A. J. Liebling was a boxing fan and once wrote about a boxer who fought under the name of Pete Herman. Liebling had seen one of Herman’s last bouts, when the fighter was nearly blind but not admitting it.

My friends, we turn now for forgiveness to the God who delivers us.

It is said Helen Keller was once asked if there was anything worse than being blind. She replied, "Having no vision."
